Zingerman’s foraging

Yesterday I dropped by Zingerman’s Deli in Ann Arbor for a quick snack. If you have never been, it is food Nirvana at it’s best. We sampled our way through the store ending with a lovely affogato (hazelnut gelato with a shot of espresso poured over the top. JOY!) in the creamery. One of my finds was a Tomato Jam from Italy that was so tasty just on the spoon that I HAD to bring a jar home. Today I fried up a grilled cheese sandwich using Zingerman’s Peasant Italian bread, Keen’s Cheddar cheese and a slathering of the tomato jam. I have to say it was the best grilled cheese I have ever had! If you visit Ann Arbor, drop by and grab yourself some, if not order online from http://www.zingermans.com/.

My ultimate grilled cheese sandwich

2 slices of good peasant bread
thin slices of a really good cheddar cheese
a slathering of tomato jam
butter for frying

Heat a pan on medium and melt some butter in it, put jam on 1/2 bread, cheese on other half, join the halves and fry on both sides until toasty. Cover the pan with a lid to melt the cheese for 1 minute at the end. Serve.
